Flaherty pitches in Cardinals’ minor league system

Pitcher Jack Flaherty ’14 was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals as the 34th overall pick and the last pick of the first round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft June 5.  Flaherty signed with the Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis June 17 after being offered a $2 million signing bonus.

Since signing with the Cardinals, Flaherty has been pitching for the Gulf Coast League Cardinals, a rookie league Cardinals affiliate team based in Jupiter, Fla. that plays in the Rookie Gulf Coast League. Flaherty holds a 2.79 ERA in 5 appearances for the team.

“Things are going really well right now.  I have a little bit less than a month left in the season,” Flaherty said.  “All in all, I’m enjoying my time out here.”
